Reporting To: Programme Leader

Salary: From £1107.00 for a full wave.

This will cover the following:

·        Training & Induction: 1 Day

·        Phase 1 (5-day outdoor residential): 5 Days, 4 nights

·        Phase 2 (5-day community residential): 5 Days, 4 nights

·        Phase 3: 60 hours of social action, ordinarily across two weeks

·        Graduation: A graduation ceremony held in September or October, usually in the afternoon of evening

The programme is run in teams of 12-15 young people within a larger group. Team Mentors assist Team Leaders in looking after a team and providing pastoral care to each of the individual young people within a team. A Team Mentor is on hand to assist the team leader in running ice breaker and guided reflection sessions, whilst ensuring that each young person is safe and getting as much as they can out of NCS. This is a hands on role that requires an individual who is passionate about young people and can stay motivated in challenging situations.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Assist with the coordination of a team during the residential phases of the programme

·        Ensure all health and safety protocols are followed in line with project guidelines

·        Guide team discussions and tasks in accordance with project outcomes

·        Support Team Leader(s) with challenging behaviour and building a team rapport

·        Be a positive role model at all times

·        Facilitate ice breaker sessions and/or assist with the guided reflection activities

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

·        A passion and enjoyment for working with young people

·        An understanding of the needs of 16-17 year olds and how to engage them

·        Experience of working in a fast-paced and demanding environment

·        Excellent communication and team building skills

·        Good spoken and written communication

·        Attend one training date prior to the programme start

·        Be optimistic and have a positive outlook

Desirable:

·        Experience of volunteering or working with young people aged 16/17 specifically

·        Previous knowledge/experience of the NCS programme

·        Experience of fundraising or managing an event

·        Experience of working directly with young people with disabilities

·        A current first aid qualification

·        A youth work qualification

·        A recent and valid DBS certificate (enhanced or standard)

·        Previous training in child protection or safeguarding

This role will require an enhanced level DBS check (formerly known as CRB) and an understanding of safeguarding.
