Reporting To: Programme Leader

Salary: From £1650.00 for a full wave. This will cover the following:

• Training & Induction: 2 Days
• Phase 1 (5-day outdoor residential): 5 Days, 4 nights
• Phase 2 (5-day community residential): 5 Days, 4 nights
• Phase 3: 60 hours of social action, ordinarily across two weeks
• Graduation: A graduation ceremony held in September or October, usually in the afternoon of evening

Team Leaders are responsible for leading a team of 12-15 young people on the NCS programme. You will do this by example, showcasing the attitude and spirit that is needed to tackle the challenges that face participants in the programme and in life. You must be enthusiastic and organised in relating to each young person within their team and encouraging full participation in the programme. Team leaders should be passionate about young people and making a difference in their lives.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Facilitate and lead a group of 12-15 young people aged 16/17 from various social backgrounds through the NCS programme
• Provide pastoral care for the team and empower each young person to be confident in developing a range of new skills
• Oversee health and safety and behaviour management for the group
• Deliver guided reflection sessions to ensure that each young person is consistently reflecting on their progress and development (training will be provided)
• Work alongside other members of staff to ensure that all young people are engaged and fully participating in activities
• Take an active role within the Phase 3 (Social Action Project) delivery and support your team to create a successful and meaningful project
• Represent NCS and Elevation Networks during visits to community and/or charity partners
• Complete data returns as needed to provide statistical and qualitative feedback about the NCS programme throughout its duration as instructed by the Programme Manager
• Report to the Senior Team Leader and/or Programme Manager about any challenging behaviour and the progress of the team
• Contribute to staff meetings and share ideas with other members of the delivery team
• Work within the ethos of the NCS programme and Elevation Networks values and ensure these are embedded in programme delivery

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

• A passion and enjoyment for working with young people
• An understanding of the needs of 16-17 year olds and how to engage them
• Experience of working with young people in a paid or voluntary capacity
• Experience of working in a fast-paced and demanding environment
• Excellent communication and team building skills
• Ability to handle challenging situations and use initiative/problem-solving skills
• Ownership - ability to take ownership of tasked areas of responsibility
• Confidence to lead on guided reflection sessions and enable each team member to participate

Desirable:

• Experience of volunteering or working with young people aged 16/17 specifically
• Previous knowledge/experience of the NCS programme
• Experience of fundraising or managing an event
• Experience of working directly with young people with disabilities
• A current first aid qualification
• A recent and valid DBS certificate (enhanced or standard)
• A youth work qualification
• Previous training in child protection or safeguarding

This role will require an enhanced level DBS check (formerly known as CRB) and an understanding of safeguarding.
