Programme Leaders are responsible for the overall running of a particular wave. This includes the day-to-day management of seasonal staff, and the pastoral care and development of up to 90 young people. The Programme Leader will liaise with the Regional Programme Manager on a daily basis on the running of the wave; managing incidents, ensuring good quality sessions are run, managing behavioural challenges and working with external stakeholders where necessary. Programme Leaders would've ideally had experience working with young people in the age group or facilitating residential programmes.

- Salary: From £1800 for a full wave.
This will cover the following:
- Training & Induction: 2 Days
- Phase 1 (5-day outdoor residential): 5 Days, 4 night
- Phase 2 (5-day community residential): 5 Days, 4 nights
- Phase 3: 60 hours of social action, ordinarily across two weeks
- Graduation: A graduation ceremony held in September, usually in the afternoon of evening
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the day to day running of a wave of up to 90 young people
- Run ice breaker sessions and impromptu games for the whole wave
- Manage the timetable of activities and events for the wave
- Ensure that key policies such as Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Equality and Diversity are being put into action
- Oversee the quality of workshops and guided reflection sessions, ensuring that they are of a high standard
- Uphold NCS Ethos and key principles
- Ensure that compliance material is fully filled in by seasonal staff (including NCS sign in sheets and incident reporting)
- Work alongside other members of staff to ensure that all young people are engaged and fully participating in activities
- Represent NCS and Elevation Networks during visits to community and/or charity partners
- Report to the Programme Leader and/or Programme Manager about any challenging behaviour and the progress of the team
- Resolve incidents of challenging behaviour or any other disruption to programme delivery
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential:
- A passion and enjoyment for working with young people
- Experience working with 16-17 year olds either in a youth work or educational environment)
- Emotional Intelligence - Ability to read situations and react accordingly
- An understanding of the needs of 16-17 year olds and how to engage them
- Experience of working with young people in a paid or voluntary capacity
- Experience of working in a fast-paced and demanding environment
- Experience of managing a staffing team in a challenging environment
- Excellent communication and team building skills
- Ability to handle challenging situations and problem-solving skills
- Ownership - ability to take ownership of tasked areas of responsibility
- Public speaking - Ability to speak to large audiences in an engaging manner
Desirable:
- Previous knowledge/experience of the NCS programme
- Experience of working directly with young people with disabilities
- A current first aid qualification
- A recent and valid DBS certificate (enhanced or standard)
- A youth work qualification
- Previous training in child protection or safeguarding
- This role will require an enhanced level DBS check (formerly known as CRB) and an understanding of safeguarding.
