About the Role

East Sussex Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability Service (ISEND) has made giant steps in recent months in meeting the challenges of the Children and Families Act SEND reforms across education, health and social care. A remodelled service and the recruitment of fast paced, enthusiastic parallel teams in  0-13 and 14-25 age phases are busy developing a new landscape which supports schools and colleges, parents, children and young people with Special Educational Needs meet their outcomes and progress towards independence.  

With a Local Area Ofsted Inspection behind us, we are looking to recruit a project specific team to assist in embedding the progress we have made. This is an exciting opportunity to gain invaluable experience of working in the challenging and rewarding world of Children’s Services. The work will focus on liaison with providers across schools, nurseries, FE colleges and special schools to secure good Educational outcomes for children and young people with SEND. This will involve working with the young people and their families, leading in meetings with providers developing or reviewing an education, health and Care plan and making recommendations regarding SEND provision.

What the role entails:

- The opportunity to work on a specific project based piece of work which will deliver results in a short time through strategic direction

- Experience in working across a range of services from education, health and social care

- Development of competent mediation and negotiating skills through taking a lead role in solution focused meetings

- Autonomy and responsibility in leading on assigned casework

 Who we are looking for:

- You will have a background in Education

- You will have some understanding of special educational needs, and experience in this field will be an advantage

- You will have the ability to identify issues, negotiate and resolve problems using your own initiative

- You will be analytical, solution focused and resilient in the face of adversity

- You will contribute towards the aims of the project proactively; shaping direction, leading and responding fluidly

- You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to reflect on your own practice, adapting this where needed

- An awareness of the SEN legislative framework and procedures for the assessment of children and young people with special educational needs would be an advantage

- You will have good IT skills and demonstrable ability to time manage and prioritise your workload

Additional Information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
