Interim Payroll & Pensions Manager (Permanent Role Also Available)

An award winning and renowned organisation based in central Brighton is urgently seeking a Payroll & Pensions Manager to cover a period of time in-between when the current job holder leaves and a new permanent employee is recruited. The current job holder is leaving in the next 3 weeks and so candidates need be readily available to interview for and start a new role. This company has only had 2 job holders in this role for the past 10 years.

This person will be considered for the permanent Payroll & Pensions Manager opportunity if they wish and will have an advantage over any other candidates.

This is the sole payroll person for the organisation and they have 500 staff on the payroll, all UK based. The position sits as part of the HR function and reports to the Head of HR.

Overview of duties (not all will be relevant to the interim position):

  • Management of the organisation's payroll system / processes.
  • Recording and reconciling monthly PAYE, NI and other deductions.
  • Completing annual year end payroll documents for the HMRC and pensions.
  • Providing reports to finance and senior management.
  • Providing reports to HMRC and various external providers (pensions, bens etc).
  • Completion of P11Ds.
  • Recording staff sickness, holiday and other documented absence.
  • Paying and recording statutory payments, eg SSP, SMP etc.
  • Input details of all new starters and leavers, including the issuing of P45s
  • Paying against time sheets, over-time claims and expenses
  • Paying benefits in kind
  • Inputting amendments to contracts
  • Generation of payslips each month.
  • Produce letters for all staff advising pay reviews.
  • Carry out the efficient administration of the pension schemes in force and auto-enrolment processes.
  • Answer staff queries about their pay, pension and benefits.
  • Producing monthly sickness reports for the Head of HR.
  • Producing ad hoc reports for the Head of HR.
  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement process and the ongoing development of a quality culture.
  • Any reasonable duties commensurate with the role, and as requested by the Head of HR.
