RYP is a Big Lottery funded partnership between DownsLink YMCA, Eastbourne & Wealden YMCA, Brighton & Hove, East & West Sussex Youth Offending Services and Kent, Sussex & Surrey Community Rehabilitation Company (Probation). Youth participation is a core value of the partnership and the project is looking to recruit experienced, dynamic, creative and organised individuals.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced, organised, proactive and committed person to work closely with the Coordinator and Peer Mentoring Worker to recruit, train and support volunteers aged 16 - 25 years from a range of sources for:

  • Activities Team
  • Digital & Social Media & Marketing Team
  • Research & Evaluation Team
  • Peer Mentoring Team

Activities volunteers will identify and commission constructive activities for RYP clients and where appropriate co-facilitate. The Digital & Social Media Marketing team will promote the project, its achievements and learning, and engage with press and media.

Research & Evaluation Team will evaluate the projects interventions with clients to inform future policy and practice, and contribute to a national research & evaluation programme to inform future central government policy. Peer Mentors will provide mentoring support for clients.

It is essential that applicants have experience of recruiting, training, supporting and developing volunteers and have previously worked successfully with different organisations from the statutory and voluntary sector.   Applicants must have previously worked successfully with young adults aged 16-25 years from diverse communities on an individual or group basis and have an insight and understanding of the challenges facing young prisoners returning to the community.

Applicants must have a good level of education (minimum NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Maths and English), good IT skills, a working knowledge of safeguarding and child protection issues and a full driving license and access to a vehicle (this post is Sussex wide and will involve travel to rural locations and nationally). The postholder must be able and willing to working some evenings and occasionally at weekends if volunteer meetings are scheduled.
