About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Fire Authority Clerk to join East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service on a full time, permanent basis.

With excellent writing and minute taking skills, a keen eye for detail, experience of working to tight deadlines, and a proven track record of working with Senior Officers and Elected Members, you will contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of the decision making process, which includes supporting the Fire Authority and its Panels.

You will be organised, accurate and able to work under pressure to pre-determined deadlines, confident in dealing with Elected Members and Senior Officers and possess good ICT, English language and communication skills. You must also have experience of working with minimum supervision, have a good understanding of local authority working and have experience of interpreting constitutions or other detailed procedural documentation.

You will be responsible for preparing agendas, reports, and minutes, organising meetings, and assisting with the maintenance of monitoring schedules. You will also deal with the Service’s complaints procedure and have line management responsibility for the Clerk to the Fire Authority. As a team you will manage the Freedom of Information requests, the Service’s Publication Scheme and Environmental Information Regulations, dealing with members of the public and officers at all levels.

Experience of supporting council committees and a sound understanding of local government will be highly desirable.

The posts will be based at the joint Police and Fire Headquarters in Lewes.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
