To take responsibility at night for the safety and security of the hostel and its residents, ensuring that reasonable noise levels are maintained.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Ensuring that residents abide by the agreed conditions of the occupation of the premises 2. Regularly patrolling and monitoring all areas of the premises, ensuring safety and security procedures and statutory obligations are adhered to. 3. Challenging/confronting behaviour that threatens the aims of the hostel and ensuring that all work at the hostel is carried out in accordance with the aims of the project including dealing with complaints. 4. Record keeping including events and incidents, people staying at the hostel and those referred elsewhere, any property left at the hostel, opening morning mail. 5. Contacting the Homeless Section duty officer and other agencies as appropriate. 6. Residents who do not settle and need to talk are made to feel that they have the opportunity to do so, although not to the exclusion of other residents’ needs or the main security aspects of the job. 7. Assisting with eviction procedures on occasion and when necessary. 8. Carrying out cleaning duties including the washing and drying of bed linen. 9. Undertaking manual and computerised administration tasks such as filing, photocopying and the upkeep of statistics. Ensuring safeguarding concerns relating to clients and premises are handed over to appropriate staff. 10. In addition, the post-holder will be expected to; a. Attend regular supervision sessions, staff meetings and specific meetings as a hostel representative b. Be aware of the needs of other workers and contribute to a supportive working environment. 11. To assist and participate in training and job development programmes. 12. You must be prepared to implement the Council’s Equalities Policy at a level appropriate to the job and must at all times carry out your duties with due regard to the Council’s Equalities Policy. 13. You must be prepared to be responsible for the implementation of and compliance with the provisions of legislation relating to the health and safety of such employees and areas of the workplace as fall under your direct control and for complying with legislation relating to such works and contracts as are within your responsibility.
