About the Role
Director of Public Health
Up to £107,987
East Sussex County Council is looking for a visionary and collaborative leader, with a proven track record of achievement through partnership working, to shape and deliver our priorities for public health.
East Sussex Better Together is our ambitious programme to transform our health and social care services to drive improvements in the health and wellbeing of the local community. The initial 150-week phase concluded in July 2017 and we have transitioned to our Alliance. Arrangements are now in place to ensure oversight of the whole health and care system from both a commissioning and delivery perspective. This Alliance phase is focusing on delivering in-year improvements across the system and developing the governance to deliver into the future.
The next phase focusses on building a new model of ‘accountable care’ that integrates our whole system; prevention (primary, secondary and tertiary prevention), primary, community and social care, mental health, acute and specialist care, so that we can demonstrably make the best use of the circa £1 billion collective resource we spend every year to meet the health and care needs of local people. We are aiming to have established a new model of ‘accountable care’ by 2020/21. Clearly an ability to influence across organisational boundaries is crucial for us.
Like most local authorities we are facing a range of complex public health issues and require a resilient and motivational individual to go further than we have done before in taking a pro-active and preventative approach to health and wellbeing. Your route into public health does not matter as much as your ability to bring strategic focus and deliver robust outcomes.
In return you will be joining an organisation committed to transforming public health that already has strong relationships with partners, which provide a solid foundation to enable things to truly happen.
Additional Information
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.
From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.
Equal Opportunities
East Sussex County Council is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. All applications are treated on merit.
