Alex Bailey was paid £125,000 after leaving Brighton and Hove City Council as head of strategy and governance in 2010 and is to commence his new job as chief executive of Worthing and Adur councils.

Mr Bailey has been working at the NSPCC as Head of Fundraising Strategy and was appointed to his new position out of circa 40 applicants for the £103,000 per annum job.

He said: “I am excited to work with the councils and communities of Adur and Worthing and look forward to taking up the role in the summer.”

Leader of Worthing Borough Council, Paul Yallop, said: “Alex said he was genuinely excited by the prospect of working with the communities of both councils. We very much look forward to working with him for the benefit of our residents.”
