Brighton company Mears, based on the outskirts of Brighton in Moulsecoomb, has been acknowledged for their work with apprentices, and named employer of the year at the National Apprenticeship Services awards.

Mears is one of Brighton’s largest private sector employers, and has employed more than 64 apprentices since being offered a contract with Brighton and Hove council to maintain houses and flats in the area.

Of the 64 apprentices who have finished their training, all have either been offered a full time, permanent job with Mears, or have been employed by another company off the back of the apprenticeship scheme.

The Skills Show takes place on the 14th November 2013, and Mears are in the running to become Employer of the Year. Mears have been an excellent employer in promoting the importance of apprenticeships. The youth unemployment rate is at its highest level across the UK, and helping more youngsters into schemes such as this one is only ever going to be a positive step in the right direction.
