A public awareness campaign is due to start in the city to promote the Council’s plans to turn most of Brighton and Hove into a 20mph zone.
New road markings and 20mph signs are being erected in readiness for the implementation of the new speed limits which come into effect on 8 April.
Posters will go up in bus shelters from Monday and adverts will broadcast information throughout Brighton and Hove.
The new speed limit will incorporate nearly all residential roads in the city centre, the city council said.
However the primary routes that take traffic in and out of the city will remain as 30mph limit roads.
Chairman of Brighton and Hove’s city transport committee, Cllr Ian Davey, said the reduced speed limit was intended to make the streets safer and more pleasant for residents, visitors and all road users including drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
“We want to keep the city moving and research and feedback from other areas where 20mph limits have been introduced has shown there has not been a negative impact” He said
