Yes, you heard it right! Brighton and Hove Albion have shared new proposals to build on the land opposite the current Amex stadium in Falmer. It is anticipated that this will create 200 new jobs, including hotel staff and staff to work in the proposed new student accommodation.

The current stadium was unveiled in 2011, and generated 1,000 jobs alone off the back of its completion. Plans for a swanky new hotel have caused somewhat of a stir amongst the authorities. Lewes District council have certainly made it clear they disapprove of the building plans. Although the land is owned by Brighton and Hove council, Lewes council will have to agree to the go-ahead prior to any work being completed, since the boundaries of the land cross over into the Lewes district.

The aim is to complete the stadium before September 2015, just in time for the Rugby World Cup!

Building proposals include new accommodation for up to 800 students, however this has upset a number of locals as plans are to build on top of where the Bridge Community Centre currently stands. The football club have stated they will find alternative accommodation for the centre.

With many struggling to find long term employment, the building plans will be a great move for local people, creating hundreds of new jobs in the area and pumping money back into the economy.
